Dog with Bone

When I was taking this picture I learned two things. First, always take pictures with lots of light if you want a clear picture. And second, taking a good picture of a dog with a bone is next to impossible. Overall, i like the photograph but, looking back, I would have taken it on a lighter day to make it more clear.

Bootsy with Mouse

I chose this photo because of the playful state I was able to catch my cat Bootsy in. I chose it because I feel that when he is either spaced out on catnip or playing with his mouse (don't worry it's fake) he is like a kitten again. He even looks like a kitten, or at least a very big, somewhat fat kitten. With this photo I chose to make it black and white in iPhoto because I feel like it gives the photo a more personal feeling.

Melting Ice

This image was snapped on an unseasonably warm Sunday afternoon. I noticed the beautiful sounds coming from the water drops. When I arrived at the source, I saw these few remaining icicles and was intrigued by the lines that painted the background. A perpendicular look is created from the vertical icicles and the horizontal/diagonal lines of the house, which adds to the interest of the photo. I also felt the colors contrasted each other artfully, with the deep reddish browns and the clear ice blues. I enhanced the contrast of the over all picture using iphoto, as well as deepening the impact of the colors. I felt this piece worked better in color than in black in white, thus the departure from my usual style in digital photography.

This is a photo of records I found at my house. I set this still-life up and chose to photograph it because I really liked the composition and use of diagonal lines. I used iPhoto to make it black and white, but I found color added an interesting effect to the picture and I like it better. I also added some contrast so the designs on the covers of the records would stand out.

Sleeping Babies

This is a photo of my friend’s nephew, sleeping. I purposely waited for him to be napping, so I could capture an innocent expression. Though his face is in the center of the photograph, it is framed by the pillows and blankets. I really enjoy this picture and it communicates this little characters features and adorability.

Feet

I’ve been inspired by portraits recently. I think that people make much more interesting subjects than anything else, and that there are many possibilities when photographing people. So while walking around my home thinking of what to photograph, I realized that my family hasn’t really played a role yet (with the exception of my sister) in my photography. However, I wanted these photos to be more than just faces and portraits. Then, while I was thinking about my family and how to make them more interesting to the camera, I was photographing my cat’s paws. It then hit me. I wanted to take pictures of my family’s feet (including my cat’s paws). I think that their feet were most inspiring because of how they vary from person to person with intricate detail.

The background includes crystals hanging from a house, which adds deeper perspective to the photo. The feet stand out because of the angle that they are positioned in.
